Millet Khichdi

A nutritious and comforting khichdi made with millets and moong dal.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup millet (foxtail millet or pearl millet)
  • 1/2 cup yellow moong dal
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 1 tomato (chopped)
  • 1 green chili (slit)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp ghee or oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak millet and moong dal for 15-20 minutes.
  2. In a pressure cooker, heat ghee or oil and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and slit green chili.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric, garam masala, and salt.
  5. Add the soaked millet and dal, and mix well.
  6. Add 3 cups of water, cover, and cook for 3-4 whistles or until the millet and dal are soft.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
