About Burpees

Burpees are a full-body exercise that burns a significant number of calories. The calories burned per burpee depend on your body weight and intensity of the exercise.

On average, one burpee burns between 0.3 and 1 calorie per repetition, depending on weight and intensity. You can estimate the calories burned using the formula:

How do you do a burpee exercise:

  • Stand straight, with your legs about shoulder-width apart.
  • Lower yourself to a squat, and place your hands on the floor.
  • Kick your feet back vigorously to a plank. Keep your body straight.
  • Do a push-up.
  • Jump the feet back to the starting position.
  • Jump explosively in the air.
  • Repeat as many times as you want.

The calculator will give you a result as a range of the burpee calories burned, together with a mean value. Being on the lower or higher side of the range depends primarily on:

  • The pace of the exercise (fast vs. slow execution).
  • The effort put into the move (standard push-up vs. knee push-up).

If you are new to fitness, you can try a half burpee (also called beginner burpee or squat thrust), which omits the push-up or jump to help build strength gradually.
